Homemade Jello Helps Kiddos Take Their Herbs

A Spoonful of Jello Helps the Herbs Go Down

We love using liquid herbal extracts in the office to help patients with a range of problems from boosting immunity to improving gut health. However, the unique taste of medicinal herbs can be a deterrent for young children, and even some adults.

Try this recipe for a fun and palatable way to deliver liquid herbs. My little helpers at home love to help me make these jello cubes and love tasting the final product even more.

Making Jello Shots for Kids

Liquid herbs for Kids

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups organic or high-quality fruit juice

1/2 cup cold water

1/2 cup hot water (not quite boiling)

1 1/2 Tbsp. Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin or Unflavored Gelatin

1 Tbsp Honey or Pure Maple Syrup (optional)

Liquid herbs as prescribed

Colored ice cube trays

Instructions

1. Pour cold water in a quart-sized mason jar.

2. Add the gelatin powder and stir briskly – it will thicken quickly.

3. Add the 1/2 cup hot water and honey or maple syrup if using and continue stirring. Mixture should thin down.

4. Add the juice and continue mixing.

5. Fill each compartment of the ice cube trays with the gelatin mixture.

6. Add the individual dose of prescribed liquid herb(s) to each compartment. The herb will readily diffuse through the gelatin before it sets.

7. Cover and place ice cube tray in the refrigerator until set, approximately 1 hour.

8. Remove cubes and enjoy as needed.

Examples

If the child requires 2 mls per day of a certain herb, the dose should be divided into two individual servings. Thus, you would put 1 ml of the liquid into each compartment of the ice cube tray. The child would then receive 1 cube at the time of dosing (i.e. morning and evening).

Different colored ice cube trays can be used when more than one child is involved or there are several different herbal mixtures being given.
